I hate the name they chose for the site, it’s all about being edgy I guess, even in food photography, but the imagery is mouthwatering!  The premise behind the site is very simple. Just submit your best food photography and if it makes the editors drool enough, then they’ll post your image online. It’s gotta be good though because they only post one a day. But if you love food photography, food or natural light photography, which most of it is, then you’ll love this site!

Beware of viewing this site while hungry!

Recently a friend of mine posted images of the BP oil spill on his site, Slices of America, an interesting photo site for professional and amateur photographers alike.

He posted images of what Grand Isle looks like after weeks and weeks of being plagued by the oil spill and the landscape of how locals are reacting. It’s a very sad sight but one worth talking about. The imagery is sad and being from that area makes it even more sad for me.

Well, for anyone who’s photographed weddings before, you know the feeling; you go in for a photograph and there are hoards of the bride and groom’s family and friends there with their own cameras! But they hired you!? So what do you do? What should you feel? Should you say anything?? Well, I found this discussion interesting and have had it with other photographer friends of mine before. Check out this article from WPJA.com. It addresses this very subject and does so very well!

Wow, what a refreshing thing to read this morning. Please, stop what you’re doing and read this post by Gary Fong. Especially any of you who dream of being a wedding photographer. Or for that matter, any type of portrait photographer. He shoots it straight… no pun intended. Wow, this is really really really good… and needed right now.

PhotoVision has much to offer in the way of educational videos. I ran across their products around five or six years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since. The DVDs I bought back then are still helpful and I love to go back and watch them all the time.

PhotoVision offers other stuff as well like products such as calibration targets but what they are most known for and rightly so are their instructional videos.

For a yearly subscription, you can receive their videos six times a year. They also have other DVDs available with all subjects related to portrait photography from top portrait photographers in each given genres such as children’s photography, wedding and senior portraits. Names such as Kirk Voclain, Kia Bondurant, Sarah Petty and Sarah Antisdel. What they ask for membership is so worth the money. If you haven’t purchased their videos before you can go back and get 2009 at a very discounted rate! But even full rate is worth it in my opinion.

Today’s post we’re featuring one of our favorite portrait photographers out there, Enchanted Images. The awesome photographers behind this great portrait photography business is James and Stephani Hays.  They are from Roseville, California, near Sacramento if I’m not mistaken.

I first became fans of theirs on photoSIG when James would post images for critique. His work made me an instant fan and I’ve been one ever since. He’s an inspiration of mine and his work just gets better and better and more classy all of the time.

Enchanted images specializes in seniors and family portraits. A great combination for these guys as they know how to do it perfectly with the right artistic touches. They are so inspiring to me I think because they never cease to produce images that look  beautiful and cutting edge, fashion forward and timeless, artistic and perfectly flattering for each individual subject. I just love these guys!!!

If you haven’t ever checked them out or it’s been a while, stop what you’re doing and go there now! It will be well worth your time.

Feeling stressed about all your options?!

I recently ran across a very helpful site called Photog Vendors.  With all the choices when it comes to products  and services such as ebooks, photography forums, lighting, print labs, credit card merchant accounts and workshops, one can get lost and foolishly waste lots of money.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were one place you could go to get reviews from other photographers about sites and products and services they are considering spending their hard earned cash on?

Well there is and it’s called Photog Vendors. There are many more products and services to be found there as well.  I won’t name specific things but there were online schools, workshops and other products that I was VERY interested in checking out. However, they all cost money and I couldn’t find good reviews on them anywhere. This site gives you an opportunity to see what other photographers are saying about these very sites, products and services.

One in particular, an online photo forum for pro photographers has always appealed to me but I didn’t know if it was worth the high cost they were asking. Photog Vendors contained dozens of reviews, most of which were extremely positive about this site. This cemented my confidence that the money spent would be worth it.

So the question, Should I put the big bucks own a membership?! Only after you check out Photog Vendors. It’s free and very helpful.

It was a fantastic photo book about the new breeds you find popping up everywhere that seem to be so popular. While these dogs used to be called mutts, they seem to be establishing more and more as types of dogs.  It was quite entertaining and enjoyable. This got me on a quest to find more work from the author / photographer of the book Amanda Jones.  It is a book that my son, my wife and my son have all found great pleasure in.

After a brief internet search I found her website.  Her work is beautiful and it has a distinct look. She photographs animals in a very simple way but she does it in ways that create a feeling that you can actually tell something great about the character of these animals. It is as if she is actually telling you about their personalities. She is wonderfully capable of portraying animals in ways that only those with the technical and artistic abilities match that of one who has the ability to read animals.

If you haven’t had the chance or have never heard of Amanda, take time to check her site and her work out. It will be well worth your time.
