LJ – Street photographer

March 4, 2010

As a portrait photographer, usually working in a studio with paying customers, I know that the most important aspect of my work is connecting intimately with my subjects.

I don’t normally get that feeling or idea from street photography. In fact, often times, the subjects you see in street photos are walking away or looking awkward towards the camera.

However, this is certainly not the case at all with today’s artist. LJ, a photographer I love from flickr, shows what street photography should be all about. His connection puts you in a place that unless you’ve been there, you never really get to see.

It’s so powerful and telling. His photography, lighting and processing are all perfectly crafted to show who his subjects are. His photography should be an instruction course for those seeking to connect with their subjects,  not only street photographers, but rather all portrait photographers.
